As an official U.S. Navy photographer, Robert "Bob" Carlisle's historical photographs of President John F. Kennedy’s state funeral were primarily distributed as official government record and published across worldwide news outlets, major metropolitan newspapers, and prominent pictorial magazines of the era.

Because Carlisle was the only photographer granted unrestricted movement inside the Capitol during the state funeral, his high-clearance negatives became a core part of the historical record managed by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). Rather than being exclusive to a single magazine, his photographs saw widespread public release through:
  • Global Pictorial Magazines: Major weekly news and culture publications, such as LIFE, Look, and international equivalents like Paris Match, regularly utilized and featured the official pooled military and White House coverage of the funeral ceremonies.
