This is a beautiful and unique bowl. It’s kind of an enigma to me. I do not believe that the bowl is made of silver. It is most likely silver plate. I’m also not sure exactly what the white substance is. It would appear to be porcelain. However, the way it’s cracked really makes me think twice about it. You can see that there is a crack to the bottom of the ball. But it’s not through the silver. So the ball still functions perfectly. Also the foot of the bowl almost looks like some type of white wood. So this is really a fascinating bowl in many ways. I also would think it’s extremely old. It comes from an estate that I’m in the process of selling. The owner of the estate was a fantastic woman who lived over 90 years. She traveled all over the world and was particularly fond of India and Tibet. I wouldn’t be surprised if this comes from one of those countries. Despite the flaws that you can see on the pictures and definitely something would be fun to look into a little further. I’m thinking this was made in the 30s or 40s. I could be off as I’m not a professional.
