Collector's Notes:  LL3s are a highly desirable group because the abundant chondrules and sparse matrix creat a visually impressive display.  The low thermal alteration leaves the chondrules with crisp distinct shapes with much of the original crystal structure remaining within them.  This met has undergone terrestrial water alteration which leads to the distinct reddening of the material.  This find is interesting because despite the weathering, it retains much of the fusions crust with mostly only moderate wind-wearing. 

On this piece in particular there are a few nice chondrules on the crusted portion that provide a nice contrast with the polished chondrules on the cut face.  I also like the interesting wedge shape.  It didin't balance easily for the video but I do like the way it presented vertically like that.

Class information: LL3 meteorites are rare, highly primitive ordinary chondrites of the LL (low-iron, low-metal) group that have undergone very little alteration since their formation. As type 3 meteorites, they preserve abundant, well-defined chondrules and unequilibrated minerals that retain many of their original chemical characteristics from the solar nebula. With very low amounts of metallic iron and a high abundance of silicate minerals, LL3 chondrites offer an exceptionally pristine record of the dust and molten droplets that existed during the earliest stages of Solar System formation. Their remarkable preservation makes them some of the most sought-after meteorites for studying the building blocks of planets.
