NOS Made in USA Lot 5
These are vintage Parker Eversharp "Writefine"
Mechanical Pencil Eraser Refills. Note, 4 each have complete 3 each erasers
inside, 1 each has 1 eraser (missing two each).
Parker and Eversharp were two of the most prominent names
in the writing instrument industry. After Parker acquired the Eversharp pen and
pencil division in 1957, they cross-branded many accessories. These specific
refills likely date from the late 1950s to the mid-1960s.
Here is the technical and historical data for this listing:
Product Specifications
• Brand: Parker / Eversharp (Joint branding)
• Product Line: Writefine
• Item Number: 6-809-8
• Components: Each refill consists of a red/pink rubber
eraser seated in a metal ferrule (sleeve).
• Original Retail Price: $0.49 for a pack of three.
• Manufacturing Origin: Made in U.S.A.
• Packaging Type: Cardboard "tube" or
"capsule" style. The green section slides into the pink cap.
Historical Context
• The Merger: Eversharp was a pioneer in mechanical
pencils (notably the "Symphony" and "Skyline" series).
Parker, famous for the '51' and '61' pens, bought Eversharp's writing
instrument division in 1957. This explains why both logos appear on the
packaging.
• The "Writefine" Branding: This was
Eversharp’s designation for their high-quality, thinner lead mechanical
pencils. The erasers were designed to fit specific "Writefine" models
which featured a plug-in style eraser housing rather than a simple friction-fit
rubber.
• Material: The metal ferrules are typical of mid-century
quality, designed to prevent the eraser from wobbling or breaking during heavy
use.
Condition & Collector Notes:
• Packaging: The green and pink cardboard tubes are in
"New Old Stock" (NOS) condition. The graphics remain sharp with the
iconic Parker "Halo" logo and the Eversharp block lettering.
• Utility: Note for buyers that while these are highly
collectible, vintage rubber can harden over 60+ years. Collectors often buy
these to complete the original kit for a vintage pencil rather than for daily
erasing.
