Vintage Hardcastle Royal Bruyere 281 Poker Estate Pipe Dunhill Era London Made

Below are the historical and technical details.

Historical Background

• Era: This pipe dates to the Transition Period (1946–1967).

• The Dunhill Connection: In 1946, Alfred Dunhill purchased 100% of the Hardcastle company shares. During this specific period (until 1967), the Hardcastle family continued to manage the factory, resulting in a unique blend of "family" craftsmanship and Dunhill-level quality control.

• Provenance: These pipes are highly regarded by collectors as "Dunhill seconds" from an era when they were still distinct, high-quality English instruments before being fully merged with the Parker brand.

Pipe Specifications:

• Brand: Hardcastle

• Line: Royal Bruyere (A mid-to-high grade line within the Hardcastle catalog).

• Shape #281: This shape is classically identified as a Poker.

• Features: A Poker is characterized by its flat-bottomed bowl (allowing it to sit upright on a table), a straight shank, and a cylindrical bowl.

• Origin Stamping: "Made in London, England" or "London Made" signifies it was produced at the Forest Road plant in Walthamstow before production shifted to the Parker-Hardcastle factory in 1967.

Dating & Identification

• Keywords:  "Hardcastle Poker 281," "Royal Bruyere," "Dunhill Era," and "London Made."

• Condition: It's an estate pipe, very minimal chatter" (tooth marks) on the bit.

• The "Sitter" Bonus: Because it is a Poker, it is a "sitter," meaning it can stand on its own without a pipe rest—a feature many buyers look for.
