Fire quartz, often called hematoid quartz or fire-hematite quartz, is a variety of clear to translucent quartz that contains iron oxide (hematite or goethite) inclusions or coatings that give it warm red, orange, brown, or golden flashes and streaks. It forms in hydrothermal veins, pegmatites, and occasionally in alluvial deposits where quartz crystals encounter iron-bearing fluids during or after crystallization. Notable sources include Brazil, Madagascar, India, Mexico, and parts of the United States (such as Arkansas); specimens are recovered by both industrial-scale mining of host rock and by smaller, artisanal or hand-sorting operations in placer deposits, with extraction methods ranging from open-pit and underground work in hard rock to panning and sieving in river gravels.

In metaphysical and crystal-healing traditions, fire quartz is prized for combining quartz’s amplifying energy with the grounding, energizing influence attributed to iron inclusions. Practitioners often use it to boost vitality, focus, and motivation, to clear mental fog, and to stabilize emotions by harmonizing the root and solar-plexus chakras.
