hwfM241 = Reproduction of a Civil War era sewing kit, or rather, housewife as they may have been called during the War. Kit has three inside pockets for sewing items. This is for either Confederate or Union soldier, the choice is yours of buttons & wool/jean cloth. The housewife includes a "stork" head scissors, 3 small wooden sticks with about 2 yards of thread (brown, black & white or blue, black and white), bone, pewter or tin backed button, and large button (Your choice of CSA, plain brass, Block "I" Block "C" or Block "A" or Federal Eagle), 3 sewing needles, 4 straight pins, 3 pieces (jean cloth, gray wool or sky blue, dark blue and red) and several pieces of cotton fabric for use as patching material. The whole kit is rolled and bound by white cotton tape.
Indicate your preference for brass button (Confederate or Union) at auction end. Also available without contents for $10 less, contact me for info on that option.
If you have ever been at an event and lost a button or blown a seam, you know how important this seemingly simple item can be. Heck you can charge your comrades to fix their trousers, great for living history activity. Homemade by me, on a period hand crank sewing machine. The material on this housewife is a period reproduction print fabric from Quilting Treasures by CRANSTON.
NOTE: AUCTION IS FOR THE HOUSEWIFE and CONTENTS ONLY. THE PICTURED SEWING MACHINE AND ANTIQUE THREAD ARE NOT FOR SALE AND ARE SHOWN SO YOU CAN SEE THE MACHINE & THREAD ACTUALLY USED TO MAKE THESE BRACES.
Great for either Union or Confederate campaigner, reenactor, living historian looking for something different. A sewing kit sent from home!!! Usable for Civil War civilian as well as Black Powder Shooters, Mountain Man, Rendezvous, Cowboy Action Shooter, SASS as well.
