Vintage 1930s Art Deco Chrome Shopping List Case with Slipcover

This is a wonderfully compact piece of 1930s design - a chrome metal shopping list cover with all the crisp geometry one associates with the Art Deco period.

The front carries a finely engine‑turned texture punctuated by an Odeon‑style tiered motif, the sort of stepped architectural flourish that found its way onto cinemas, radios and cigarette cases of the era.

The metal is likely chrome‑plated brass, giving it that bright, silvery sheen so characteristic of interwar modernity.

It is a hinged little sleeve intended to hold a tiny memo pad or grocery checklist, the analogue ancestor of the smartphone note app and, in many ways, a more charming one.

To the rear it is stamped Made in England with the UK registration number RD799985.

It comes with its early slipcase, decorated with intricate geometric embossing that borders on the Celtic, designed to protect the polished metal from scuffs in a handbag and to house a small pencil. It’s done well to remain with the shopping list holder over the decades!

The whole ensemble feels satisfyingly tactile - a pocket‑sized reminder of a time when even the humblest domestic object was given aesthetic consideration.

It measures about 3.5 inches tall (9 cm) and just under 2.25 inches wide (5.5 cm).

In good overall vintage order. I have taken plenty of photos to allow you to judge the condition so please take a moment to study them too.

The approximate dimensions again are as follows:
