CHINESE TURNTABLE/PHONOGRAPH NEEDLES

They do not use genuine diamond tips (made from industrial diamond stone) for turntable needles in China.  They use man-made tips we refer to as sapphire.  A sapphire tip lasts about 80 hours of play before it must be replaced or it will damage your records.  A genuine diamond tip (usually made in Japan or Switzerland) will last 600 to 800 hours of play. You would need to purchase 10 to 12 Chinese tips to equal the life of one genuine diamond tip.  Sapphire tips are only made in a conical shape, whereas genuine diamond can be cut to also produce elliptical tips, which read more of the record groove for vastly improved sound.  The Chinese call their tips ruby diamond, or other various names for man-made Chinese tips.  The loss or damage to your records is a real loss problem.  Records are not cheap today.
