VINTAGE/ANTIQUE IMAGE – This listing is for a 6.5 x 4.5 inch genuine vintage tintype (ferrotype) of Jack Daniels’ White Rabbit Saloon Lynchburg, Tennessee.  This is not a modern copy.  This was produced many years ago from the original image and mounted on the 10 x 12 buff paper.  I could find no information on date, number produced, or the reason created – perhaps some kind of promotional item or given to specific individuals.  This is not a modern copy - Guaranteed.  

Jack Daniels opened the White Rabbit Saloon in 1892 as a gathering place for his friends.  The saloon has not served alcohol since 1909 when Lynchburg became a “dry” town.  The original tintype image would have been taken while the saloon was open (1892-1909).  While it is possible that this item was made while the saloon was open, I believe that it was made some time later - Maybe 1920s to 1940s.     

RARE ITEM - This mounted tintype is somewhat rare.  The image alone can be viewed on the Jack Daniels website.  The only other example I could locate of this mounted tintype was on the website for the Josef Lebovic Gallery.  While the image offered by the gallery is similarly mounted, the gallery provided no additional information on dating or purpose of the item.  The image was used by Jack Daniels for some later magazine advertisements and a postcard.   

EBAY IMAGES – The eBay listing images are a very good representation of the tone and contrast of the image.  Also provided is an image made slightly lighter in contrast showing more image detail. 

CONDITION - The old paper mount has some edge tears and chipped corners.  The tintype has the usual marks tintypes have.  The tintype does have a small, dented area and a scratch - see upper center left.
