This is a very nice find of a large, hand crafted, 8 day traditional cuckoo clock with a rare 3 Bird case that was created about 65 years ago in the Black Forest of "Germany" by the "Cuckoo Clock Manufacturing Company." The Cuckoo Clock Manufacturing Company did a great deal to popularize the modern cuckoo clock since they were quick to mobilize after WWII and did all they could to get one of their high quality clocks into the hands of GI's returning home from the war. My father brought one home and I remember it to this day. This is a remarkable old survivor that is carved entirely of cured and aged Linden wood which is grown nearly exclusively at certain altitudes of the Black Forest. The attention to detail in the thick, wavy, and deep carvings is simply breathtaking and it sports a remarkable deep mahogany finish too; very nice! The front is adorned with seven, large, heavily carved wood grape leaves and grape vines too. There is an impressive, deeply carved wooden bird on either side of the wooden dial and each bird is looking upward at an even larger bird perched on the grape vine branches at the very top of the case and looking as though he's ready to take flight. The wooden dial has a black backdrop and features raised white Roman numerals to mark the hours and a pair of matching, fancy hands to point out the time. The country name, "Germany" appears on the lower dial. The wooden back is secured with a metal latch and removes to allow access to the mechanical movement inside the case bearing the Cuckoo Clock Manufacturing Company name and Germany point of origin too. A weight driven movement simply means that the chains need to be pulled once a week or so to wind the clock, chimes, and cuckoo activity. The wooden bellow or whistle tubes are intact and the tops look good and make good sound too! At the bottom of each hour, the small wooden door above the dial opens and a colorful bird stands in the doorway. He gives off a single cuckoo sound in tandem with a coiled chime inside the case before retreating back inside the clock, closing the door behind him. The bird returns at the top of the hour and correctly cuckoos and chimes the current number of hours before going back inside the clock and closing the door; absolutely fascinating! The clock cuckoos and chimes as it should but the clock only ticks for a few minutes and then stops. Ordinarily, I would do whatever is needed for this beautiful clock but I simply don't have the time these days so have it repaired, do it yourself, or leave it the way it is; gorgeous on display! Keep in mind that this is an old clock, not a new one and we don't know the service history. It does show signs of past maintenance but nonetheless, some adjustments or service will be necessary once the clock arrives at its new home. We always recommend to our clock customers to service their antique or vintage clocks at least once every three years. Doing so will turn a classic like this one into a family heirloom in years to come. I've looked the clock over fairly well and can't find much in the way of wear at all and no damage or missing parts. It is amazing to look at, listen to, and is one of the nicer clocks I've seen in some time. It is an impressive clock and equally so in size measuring about 13 1/2" high (not counting the weights or pendulum), about 6" at its deepest point, and about 9 1/2" across the top. The clock comes complete as shown with two sets of attached metal chains, a fancy, unusual wooden, hand carved grape leaf pendulum, and two very heavy pinecone shaped metal weights. This clock is a collection all by itself and is certain to attract a great deal of attention from guests in your home, office, or wherever it is that you care to showcase a beautiful Black Forest timepiece. Have it repaired, repair it yourself, or leave it the way it is but regardless, bid with confidence. It is a very nice clock and I have no doubt that you will absolutely love it!

We're selling this item and everything else we list with No Reserve, AS-IS, No Returns or Refunds, and a low starting bid so that everyone has an equal chance to own this rare clock!  We'd be glad to send more pictures if available; just ask!  My wife and I have been accumulating lots of nice antiques and other collectors items over the years.  But now is a good time to start clearing out the things we no longer wish to keep.  We will give the money we raise from ebay sales to a ministry we support that is helping to construct orphan homes and schools in Kenya and China, resettling refugees from the Sudan, and lending assistance to victims of terror like those in Israel.  It's just something we enjoy doing and this is where your money will go once you have paid for this item.  We do all that we can to accurately describe each item to the best of our ability.  Our terms are pretty simple; payment is due on or before the 2nd day following the close of sale.  The winning bidder will be sent an invoice following the close of sale through EBAY Checkout.  Buyer is to pay for shipping and handling; we generally ship by the US Postal Service and sometimes by Federal Express.  An international buyer will pay additional postage and is encouraged to get a shipping estimate from us prior to the close of auction.  In most cases, payment can be made by VISA or MasterCard by calling our office or through Pay Pal in US funds.  Please note that all transactions will be given the appropriate feedback.  Bid often and have Fun!
