About the Book
Recipes is a community cookbook compiled by the Ladies Auxiliary of the Farmer Volunteer Fire Department in Farmer, North Carolina, a small community in Randolph County near Asheboro. The book gathers contributions from a named roster of local women and is organized into nine sections: appetizers, breads and rolls, cakes and cookies, desserts, pickles and preserves including canning and freezing guidance, main dishes, soups and salads, vegetables, and miscellaneous items. The front matter includes a photograph of the Farmer Volunteer Fire Department station and apparatus, along with a full contributor list. Printed by Walter's Publishing Company of Waseca, Minnesota, a long-running specialty publisher serving church, school, and civic organizations. The bright yellow cover features a hand-drawn illustration of a pig on a spit over an open brick pit, reflecting the rural Southern barbecue culture of the region. The spiral binding shows age wear and the cover has some edge wear, consistent with use and age, though interior pages remain intact and readable.
