Layers of washi paper are carefully applied over the wooden base, allowing the natural fibers to subtly show through the lacquer.

As the lid is slightly opened, pine trees rendered in maki-e appear along the rim.
Inside the lid, a refined Sumiyoshi Shrine scene unfolds — featuring a torii gate, shrine buildings, and a graceful drum bridge — delicately depicted in gold maki-e.
It feels as though a quiet shrine landscape has been captured within this small vessel.
The contrast between the understated, tactile washi exterior and the elegant, hidden maki-e interior creates a moment of discovery each time it is opened.
