This is a collectable Georgian Hallmarked sterling silver thimble made in 1898 by Henry Griffith & Sons LTD from Warstone Lane, Birmingham; (from 1919) Tachbrook Road, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire.
Originally based in Birmingham, the company moved its operations to Royal Leamington Spa around 1919, eventually becoming known as the "Jewel Factory".
Hallmark Identification
The row of stamped symbols on the band provides specific information about the piece's origin and materials:
- Maker's Mark ("HG&S"): Identifies the manufacturer as Henry Griffith & Sons Ltd., a renowned firm established in 1850 and based in Birmingham and Leamington Spa.
- Standard Mark (Lion Passant): The walking lion symbol confirms the item is made of Sterling Silver, which is 92.5% pure silver.
- Town Mark (Anchor): This symbol indicates the piece was assayed at the Birmingham Assay Office.
- Date Letter ("y"): Based on lowercase "y" in a square shield with cut (clipped) corners— 1898.

The thimble is in lovely antique condition
The silver is hallmarked for Birmingham and the year with maker's mark PFE that I found on
Birmingham Makers Marks (just Google it)
