Description

This is a nice, lightly used, "One Dinar" note from the "Democratic Federation of Yugoslavia." This was the first note issued by what would become the communist state after World War II. It is dated 1944 while the war was still raging.

"Yugoslavia" was patched together after World War I from the wreckage of the old "Austro-Hungarian" Empire. It was given a King and the "Monarchy" lasted until it was invaded by the Nazis. After World War II, Tito came to power and abolished the Monarchy. The "Communist State" existed until 1991-92 when it broke up. Serbia and Montenegro continued to call themselves "Yugoslavia" for a while, but they broke up in 2006 putting "Paid" to Yugoslavia's existence.

"Standard Catalog of World Paper Money" (General Issues 1368-1960) by Albert Pick. #48.

Face: Olive brown. • Soldier with rifle at right.

Back: 29 • XI • 1943 or November 29, 1943 - on Arms. • 1944 at right. Bilingual.

The Note: A pleasing example, it saw light use. Still crisp and bright, it been folded but has no tears or holes, a nice piece overall. Inflation soon had Yugoslavia printing $500,000,000,000.00 or “Five Hundred Billion” Dinara notes so they didn't print 1 Dinar notes long. The note will be sent in a new currency holder that protects it. As grading is subjective, please see the pictures and judge for yourself.
