PRICE REDUCTION! FIERCE AND ICONIC HIGHLY DECORATED HALL-OF-FAME LINEBACKER & PACKERS' SUPER BOWL PIONEER - AUTOGRAPHED FIRST DAY COVER! Ray Nitschke (1936 - 1998), a 7-TIME ALL-PRO, was the heart and soul of Vince Lombardi's Green Bay Packers dynasty defense. Nitschke played his entire 15-year career with Green Bay, helping to lead them to 5 NFL CHAMPIONSHIPS (pre-Super Bowl) and the VERY FIRST 2 SUPER BOWLS (I and II). In 1969, the NFL named Nitschke its ALL-TIME TOP LINEBACKER in honor of the NFL's 50th Anniversary. He is the only linebacker to have made both the NFL's 50th Anniversary Team and its 75th Anniversary Team. Nitschke was inducted into the PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME in 1978. Every year after his induction until his death, Nitschke spoke at an annual luncheon the day before induction day for all the new inductees, welcoming them to "the greatest team of them all." Following his death the Hall named it the "RAY NITSCHKE LUNCHEON" in his honor. Nitschke is also enshrined in the GREEN BAY PACKERS HALL OF FAME and the Packers RETIRED HIS JERSEY No. 66 in recognition of his greatness. To further commemorate Nitschke, the Packers named one of their two outdoor practice fields "RAY NITSCHKE FIELD." Indeed, the entire City of Green Bay revered Nitschke as evidenced by the "RAY NITSCHKE MEMORIAL BRIDGE" erected over the Fox River on Main Street in Green Bay being named in his honor. That Nitschke's original signature sits atop a First Day Cover commemorating the issuance of the 1988 Knute Rockne postage stamp (another football icon known for his grit, determination and influence on the game), makes this autograph that much more rare, unique and valuable.
