Vintage Boy Scouts of America “Gilwell” Troop 502 flag, produced by Annin in traditional cotton bunting. This is a mid-century example with sewn appliqué lettering and emblem, not a later printed version, giving it a depth and texture that immediately sets it apart when displayed.

The design features “Troop 502” across the top, “Gilwell” below, and the classic BSA emblem with “Be Prepared” motto at center. The inclusion of “Gilwell” is significant within Scouting history, referencing the traditions of advanced leadership training associated with Gilwell Park in England, the origin of Wood Badge. In the United States, flags bearing “Gilwell” are often connected to leadership courses, training patrols, or ceremonial groups rather than standard local troops, adding a layer of historical intrigue and collectibility.

Constructed of heavy cotton bunting with individually sewn appliqué letters and emblem. The hoist retains its original canvas header with brass grommets and Annin “Defiance” label marked cotton bunting, 2-ply, mothproof. Measures 52 x 66 inches, offering a strong, large-format presence suitable for wall display.

Condition is excellent overall. Colors remain bold and saturated. Fabric shows light wrinkling from storage and minor handling wear consistent with age. Stitching and appliqué are intact and well preserved with no major issues.
