Hi I am selling some of my odd items I have collected over the years. Here is a Vintage WW1 Bronze Death Penny in original Cardboard Case for Pte George Whyte - service no. 4613, a soldier who served in the British Army during World War I (1914-1918). The Death Penny was a commemorative plaque given to the families of fallen soldiers. This particular item was manufactured in the United Kingdom and is a significant piece of militaria collectable from that era.
George Whyte served with the 47th Bn., Australian Infantry, A.I.F and died on 7th June 1917 aged 19. He was the son of Isabella and John Whyte of Moores pocket, Tivoli Hill, Ipswich, Queensland. He is remembered with honour at Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. Is showing some signs of patina.
