When do you need to replace the axle?
1:A "clicking" sound or knocking sound when turning
While it's sometimes described as a loud click and sometimes as a bang, once you hear it, the sound is unmistakable. It presents itself when you steer the vehicle and it is due to loose joints in the worn CV axle and the best thing to do is to have the problem checked by an expert immediately.
2. There is grease on the inside or edge of the tire
The shoe of the CV shaft joint contains grease to prevent it from leaking as the shaft rotates. If the starter develops a leak, the resulting lack of lubrication can quickly cause the CV joint to fail.
3. Vibration while driving
This is a tricky question because there are many things that can cause vibrations when you drive. However, if the vibration is excessive, increases speed, or gives your drive an unusual "bouncy" feel, it may be due to the CV shaft. Whatever the cause of the vibration, it's important to have your vehicle inspected; if it's vibrating too much, it can become difficult to control.
