This item for sale is a new Shimano XTR FC-M985 double 10 Speed Chainset 170 mm 40-28T and BB SM-BB93: Proper NOS, brand new old stock, never used. Always stored in the original box. Made in Japan 2011. Desirable sweet spot 170 mm crank length. Silver anodised. Crankset and box are pristine. Complete in box with tool adapter spacers, XTR bottom bracket SM-BB93 and Shimano service instructions included. Perfect for 10 Speed MTB builds or collectors. One of the prettiest chainsets to come out of the Shimano XTR line IMO.

Part of Shimano's first 10 Speed series XTR Groupset originally marketed as DYNA-SYS (Dynamic system). The XTR Race M985 double- ring chainset complements race-day performance with a narrow Q-factor, unparalleled power transfer to suit racers' speed and style. Developed under the concept of ”Rider Tuned”. Announced in summer 2010, available circa 2011-14. This chainset for sale is brand new and never installed - it's from the first year of production dated (JE) manufactured May 2011.

Included for reference only is an article from BikeRumor highlighting some of the details from the new XTR M980 groupset (see image 7) specifically the change to 2x10 speed.
