We have for auction a CDV photo which we believe could possibly be Daniel Webster Tilton, an early pioneer businessman in the gold rush town of Virginia city, Idaho Territories (Montana). Tilton was particularly noted for publishing a newspaper in Virginia City amongst other printing ventures. The CDV was taken in Silver Creek NY, Tilton’s place of birth which he visit in 1865 to get married. This may explain the Silver Creek photographer . The photo was found with other Silver Creek photos and is identified as found with the last name Tilton on the reverse. We have found a tintype photo of DW Tilton online (Silver Creek Facebook) and it has strong resemblance to the CDV. No guarantee this is DW Tilton but a strong possibility exists. If indeed Tilton this CDV is an excellent image of an historical Virginia City figure.
