Commodore 1541 Floppy Disk Drive With Mods - Tested & Working, With Minor Issue

I found this drive at an estate sale several years ago. It's been in storage until recently when I got it out to clean up and sell.

I disassembled and cleaned this drive, including removing the PCB from the sled, the sled from the bottom half of the case, and the drive from the sled. I cleaned each component, including getting into all the little nooks and crannies of each piece. I didn't disassemble the floppy drive itself to clean it, but I did still manage to get in all the little corners of it, and it's much, much cleaner than it was. It was mostly the top that had a layer of old grime on it. I also cleaned the head, and cleaned and lube the rails.

This drive is modded with a drive ID toggle switch and a reset switch. The reset switch works well, but I've been unable to get the drive to work properly when switched to ID #9. I got it to load some small programs off of a C64 sample disk, but it wouldn't properly load and run either of the aforementioned diagnostic programs when set to ID #9. See the last pic for a screenshot of the error message it gave when trying to run the Performance Test program on #9. I haven't done any troubleshooting on this issue. And the drive works great when set to ID #8.

I tested the drive using "1541/1571 Drive Alignment". The drive alignment program checks head alignment, motor speed, and head stop. This drive currently has "Satisfactory" alignment. The head stop test showed "Excellent," and the motor speed test also showed "Excellent."

I also tested it several times with "Performance Test" on the VIC 1541 Test/Demo disk. This program thoroughly exercises the disk drive's mechanical and electronic components to verify proper operation. It specifically checks for accurate head positioning (alignment) by reading/writing to tracks 1 and 35, ensures the stepper motor functions correctly, and tests the ability to format, read, and write data.

Cosmetically it's in good overall shape. There are no cracks, breaks, or other major damage to the plastic or any other part of the drive. It has a mild amount on yellowing, mostly on the right side. There are some darker smudges and small marks on the top of the case that I wasn't able to clean off. Please review the pics carefully for this drive's condition and check out the video.

For sale is the floppy drive and power cable, no other parts or accessories are included.

I will pack the drive well and ship promptly upon receipt of payment. I'm going to ship it with a scratch floppy inserted into it with the drive door latched to protect the head from vibration. Local pickup is available from Portland, OR 97209.

Let me know if you have any questions, thanks :)
