InvadHirst is a limited-edition print by Damien Hirst and Invader. The print is based on a new work currently on view at the Triple Trouble exhibition at Newport Street Gallery.
In InvadHirst, Invader’s iconic Space Invader motif is brought into dialogue with Hirst’s Spot Paintings, one of Hirst's most recognisable series. Set against a stark white background, twenty uniquely coloured Space Invaders are arranged in a strict grid, this ordered geometry reinforced by the structure of the original tile.
InvadHirst showcases the exciting common ground between Invader and Hirst’s practices and sheds new light on some of their long-established ideas. The grid structure of InvadHirst is a characteristic of Hirst’s Spot Paintings, but it also evokes the organisation of Space Invader characters in the arcade game that inspired Invader's motif. Invader creates the spot-like, pixelated creatures that occupy this grid from his wide-ranging palette of tiles, ensuring that, like in Hirst's Spot Paintings, no two are the same colour.
