Description:
If you’ve had your car for a little while, you probably don't think too much about your car door handle - until one day you grab the door handle to get in and it feels "off." You can’t quite place it but it just doesn’t feel right. The handle seems to operate, but it’s as though the door is still locked.
How to Replace an Exterior Car Door Handle?
Step 1: Purchase a new door handle. By studying the handles and understanding how the fasteners are installed, you can determine whether they can be removed from the outside of the door or the inside of the door
Step 2: Locate the fasteners. In most cases, there is a fastener on the door frame at the corner of the door handle (usually it is hidden behind a plastic plug or weather strip)
Step 3: Apply painter's tape. Put the little painter's tape on the door handle. Open your screwdriver, socket kit or Torx screwdriver and take out the bolts. After removing, the handle can be moved back and forth.
Step 4: Remove the door handle. Slide the door handle to the front of the car, and the rear of the handle can be tilted out of the door. When finished, the front part of the handle will be able to move freely and slide out the door in a similar manner.
Step 5: Switch the lock cylinder. Put the key in the lock and loosen the fasteners at the end that hold it in place. A clock spring and other equipment may be attached.
Step 6: Install the door handle. Make sure all the rubber washers are in place, then first slide the small end (front) of the door handle into the slot, and then start inserting the big end, reconnect all links or electrical connections and guide the handle into the slot.
