Reads:  Sir:  1.  You will regard yourself detached from duty on board the U.S. Flagship Olympia on the 23d instant.  Take passage in the Pacific Mail Steamship Company's Steamer "City of Peking", sailing home on or about that date, and proceed to San Franciso, California.  On arrival at that port, proceed to Annapolis, Md., and report to the Superintendent of the U.S. Naval Academy for final examination, and transmit these orders to the Navy Department for approval.

2.  Paymaster of the Fleet Daniel A. Smith, U.S. Navy, will provide your transportation from Hong Kong to San Franciso.  Very respectfully,  Rear Admiral, U.S. Navy, Commanding U.S. Naval Force on Asiatic Station.
