BRIEF INFORMATION
ABOUT AMBER VARIETIES
NATURAL AMBER:
- Natural Amber is a fascinating material
with a history that spans millions of years. It is essentially fossilized tree
resin that has been forming underground over an incredibly long period of time.
This process of formation is influenced by various factors such as the type of
soil, the species of the tree that produced the resin, the temperature,
pressure, and the length of time it has been buried.
- The result of this complex process is a
material that can exhibit a wide range of colors. The color of Amber can vary
greatly, from a pale yellow to a dark brown, and even blue or green. These
variations in color are dependent on the specific conditions under which the
Amber was formed, including the type of tree, the soil in which it was buried,
the temperature and pressure it was subjected to, and the length of time it was
allowed to fossilize.
- Amber has been used since ancient times
for the manufacture of various goods and ornaments. Its natural beauty,
combined with its ability to be easily shaped and polished, made it a popular
choice for artisans throughout history. From jewelry to decorative items, Amber
has been used to create a wide array of beautiful and functional objects.
- One of the unique properties of Amber is
its electrostatic properties. When rubbed, Amber can generate static
electricity. This property, along with its natural beauty and the warmth it
exudes when held, has contributed to the enduring appeal of Amber throughout
the ages. Today, Amber continues to be a material of choice for many, cherished
for its natural beauty, rich history, and unique properties.
AMBER BAKALITE(CATALIN,
ATES-FIRE AMBER, SIKMA-PRESS AMBER):
- Amber
Bakelite, also known as Catalin or Sikma Amber, is a unique and valuable
material with a rich history. Its origins trace back to the late 1890s in
Belgium, where it was first produced. Over time, the production of this
material expanded to other parts of the world. In Germany, it was manufactured
and later, in the 1920s, it found its way to the United States where it was
produced under the name Catalin.
- The original formula of Amber Bakelite, which contributed to its unique
properties, unfortunately, got lost after the Second World War. Despite this
setback, the production of Amber Bakelite continued. Today, it is produced in
small quantities using a formula that closely resembles the old one. This
production takes place in small workshops located in Turkey, some countries in
the Middle East, and a few European countries.
- The limited production and the loss of the original formula contribute to
the rarity and value of Amber Bakelite. It is a sought-after material,
especially in the countries of the Middle East and Asia, where it is commonly
referred to as the Invoice.
- One of the popular uses of Amber Bakelite is in the creation of rosaries. The
rosary mentioned here is made of the original New Amber Bakelite, adding to its
value and uniqueness. This highlights the enduring appeal and versatility of
Amber Bakelite, despite the changes and challenges it has undergone since its
inception.
