The rare Maireener or Rainbow Kelp Shells were highly 

prized and collected for thousand's of years.

They were meticulously cleaned and threaded usually on wallaby sinew.

This one is treaded on old string.

Highly prized they were a good trade item.

These shells were only found in the cold southern seas of Australia.

The shells display

an amazing iridescent glow of colours from green through to blue and purple.
