NEWSAGENT'S DESCRIPTION

This listing is for Man’s Life Vol. 9 No. 2 (January 1961), a peak-era men’s adventure issue featuring an iconic "dangerous women" cover painting attributed to Wil Hulsey, the pulp legend best known for his infamous 1956 “Weasels Ripped My Flesh” illustration, which became a defining image of postwar men’s magazine excess and was later repurposed by Frank Zappa as the title of his 1970 Mothers of Invention album.

This issue also includes a multi-page pictorial of Pat Conley, also known professionally as Patty Conley or Patti Conley, a popular 1950s pin-up model and beauty queen whose appearances in Modern Man, Follies, and Jem solidified her status as one of the most published models in the glamour scene during the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Interior artwork includes uncredited illustrations likely by top-tier pulp artists such as Earl Norem, who would go on to define the painted visual style of Savage Sword of Conan and Marvel’s Planet of the Apes magazine, and Geoffrey Biggs, a prolific contributor to men's adventure magazines, known for his muscular action spreads and jungle-themed rescue illustrations.

Also featured is an article by Gene Lowall, writing under the pseudonym James Finnegan, a veteran true crime and investigative reporter whose work appeared across dozens of 1950s and 60s men’s pulp titles. Lowall specialized in high-drama exposés that blurred the line between reportage and pulp narrative, making his features a hallmark of the genre’s tabloid tone.

With a legendary cover artist, an iconic midcentury pin-up model, and uncredited interior work from two of the most influential pulp painters of the era, this issue of Man’s Life stands as a definitive example of early 1960s men’s adventure publishing at its most sensational and graphically compelling.
