Die
Schlachtschiffe der Montana-Klasse waren als Weiterentwicklung der Iowa-Klasse der
Höhe- und Endpunkt des Schlachtschiffbaus in den USA. Der endgültige Entwurf der
Montana-Klasse wurde Anfang 1941 genehmigt und die Fertigstellungstermine für
die fünf Schiffe der Klasse sollten zwischen Juli und Dezember 1945 für das
erste und das letzte Schiff liegen. Der damalige Präsident, Franklin D. Roosevelt,
erließ am 20. Mai 1942 jedoch einen Baustopp für die Schiffe. Am 21. Juli 1943
wurde die Montana-Klasse ersatzlos gestrichen.

The Montana-class battleships, as a further development
of the Iowa class, represented the pinnacle and culmination of battleship
construction in the USA. The final design of the Montana class was approved in
early 1941, and the completion dates for the five ships of the class were
scheduled between July and December 1945 for the first and last ships,
respectively. However, President Franklin D. Roosevelt ordered a halt to
construction on May 20, 1942. On July 21, 1943, the Montana class was canceled
without replacement.
Top kit, in my opinion better than the Very
Fire Deluxe kit!
