The series features one stamp per province (including former territories like Ifni, Spanish Sahara and Fernando Po), issued mostly in groups of 12 per year (except 1971, with only 5).
The stamps were released in alphabetical order by province and all show female figures in traditional attire. They are multicoloured, on glossy paper, and typically valued at 6 pesetas (last three at 8 pesetas).
