A distinctive 1880s antique hand fan, remarkable for its translucent black silk gauze leaf that is lavishly sequinned and finely embroidered. At the centre of the composition is a miniature embroidered vignette: a graceful lady seated beneath a tree, observed by a mischievous Cupid poised with his arrow. The workmanship is extraordinarily delicate, demonstrating the precision and artistry characteristic of high-quality fan production of the period.

While the central embroidery has softened in colour—likely the result of historical exposure to sunlight—the craftsmanship remains fully appreciable. From the reverse of the leaf, one can still discern traces of the original silk thread hues, offering a charming glimpse into how vibrant the scene once appeared.
