This modern roundhouse is modeled after a reinforced concrete prototype and features three stalls, each set at a 10-degree angle for efficient use of space—perfect for expanding to 3, 6, or 9 stalls side by side. The straight, doorless front design allows for easy access, and the interior depth of 7.9 inches (200 mm) easily accommodates large steam locomotives such as the C62 or D51.
The roof features a gentle single-slope design with smokestacks at the front and rear of each stall, while side and rear windows allow natural light into the building. The included Unitrack section (7.3 inches / 186 mm) with a maintenance pit realistically recreates the lively atmosphere of a working engine house.
This roundhouse connects directly to KATO’s turntable expansion track set (straight), with adjacent tracks spaced at a 10-degree angle and a rail height of approximately 0.47 inches (12 mm). It also supports lowered turntable installation, with a rail height of 0.28 inches (7.2 mm) when spacers are not used. A dedicated sticker sheet with track numbers, zebra markings, and warning signs is included for added realism.
