Rare Antique George IV Copper Farthing 1821 1st Issue, Dot After Date

This 1821 Great Britain Farthing is a copper coin from the reign of King George IV. Notably, this example features the scarce variety with a dot after the date, making it a sought-after characteristic among collectors of British numismatics.

The obverse displays a finely detailed laureate portrait of King George IV facing left, with the legend ‘GEORGIUS IIII DEI GRATIA’ which translates to ‘George the Fourth by the Grace of God’.

The reverse features Britannia seated facing right with a lion at her feet, trident in her left hand, shield with the Union flag andan olive branch in her right hand, encircled by the inscription ‘BRITANNIAR REX FID DEF 1821.’ this translates to ‘King of the Britains Defender of the Faith 1821.’ The small dot following the date is an intriguing detail, representing a subtle mint variation from the Tower Mint in London.

The copper coin was engraved by Benedetto Pistrucci and was struck at the Royal Mint in London, the coin is approx. 2.2cm diameter.

The coin has wear from being in circulation.

A rare collectable coin.
