We present a charming expansive landscape, with farmfolk gathered and in conversation on a mountain bridleway, believed to be the mountains of Cumbria’s Lake District, northern England.  This is a watercolour painting, dated 1912, by the much-admired and collected British artist William Manners (1860 – 1930).   Manners was born in Bradford, Yorkshire in Northern England.  Working entirely in watercolours, Manners painted scenes showing rural life, mostly landscapes and the people working their trades.  He was elected a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1893.  He is recorded as exhibiting three works at the Royal Academy in London besides regularly exhibiting at the Royal Scottish Academy and at the  Walker Gallery, Liverpool.  He established a studio in Otley, Yorkshire for much of his life before moving to the Lake District, where he also continued to paint.  Many examples of the work of William Manners can be seen on artprice.com, askart.com, invaluable.com and mutuaart.com besides leading international auction sites and galleries.  Several works in public ownership can be seen on ArtUK.   Presented in very good condition  in a later frame, this painting will look fabulous displayed
