Classic Treasures from the Disney History Vault... from the Worldwide Disneyana Specialists of Saturday's Toys...
Item: Main Street Disneyland... Child's MENU from Carnation Ice Cream Parlor
Date: 1988
Description: This original menu is from 1988, in the final ten year period before the iconic Main Street U.S.A. Carnation Ice Cream Parlor finally closed. At that time, the Blue Ribbon Bakery moved into Carnation's original location... and an outdoor restaurant was then opened in the exterior courtyard next to what become the Blue Ribbon Bakery... to be known as the Carnation Café (having no further connection to the Carnation Company.)
Features Mickey Mouse with his vaudeville partner, Brer Bear from Walt Disney's "Song of the South"...
The Carnation Ice Cream parlor originally opened on July 17, 1955 and was finally closed in January 1997. This menu was known to have been used at Disneyland in the final years of Carnation's existence. Though Carnation was subsequently purchase by Nestle... Disney maintained the rights of the Carnation name in reference to their new Carnation Café.
This child's menu was developed to keep youngsters occupied with "things to do" while their family waited for their food orders to arrive. The menu features only two meal options for children: The "Pride of Main Street" (peanut butter and jelly sandwich) and the "Turn of the Century" (grilled "frankfurter"). Both options were served with corn chips. This may be a reason as to why not many of these unique activity menus are still found today... as kids are often more drawn to chicken nuggets or pizza options.
Still, this menu remains an icon of years gone by... and a tribute to the tradition that Disneyland enjoyed for more than four decades.

Saturday’s Toys and Collectibles was founded in 1994 by Southern California author and media historian, Dave Mason. Soon after eBay's launch the following year, Saturday's Toys was among the first online specialists to strategize in embracing this rapidly developing technology. Having delivered over 16,000 coveted treasures since that time, Saturday's Toys is pleased to partner with researchers and collectors throughout the globe.
Today, online offerings of archival keepsakes are presented in celebration of the times that allow for family, friends and neighbors to join in memorable gatherings that nurture the strong connections that bind a community together. These treasures are affectionately represented by "Saturday's Toys." In that light we present our adopted motto (with a nod to the Sherman Brothers): "Oh, let's go fly a kite!"
