I don’t know how to test whether or not it works. Selling it as-is

• Seikosha 8-Day Drop-Octagon Wall Clock (Schoolhouse/Regulator style)

Mechanical, spring-driven time-and-strike movement with weekly wind; classic octagonal head over a lower drop case.

• Maker & mark

Manufactured by Seikosha (predecessor to Seiko). Center‐dial Seikosha “S” trade-mark and an interior paper label reading “High Grade Eight Day Clock – Manufactured by Seikosha.”

• Era & design

Early 20th-century export model (c. 1910s–1920s) in the widely used “schoolhouse” pattern seen in classrooms, depots, and offices. Octagonal bezel over a drop section with stenciled glass and visible brass pendulum.

• Case & materials

Solid oak case with pressed decorative molding; warm medium-oak finish. Brass bezel with glass over a Roman-numeral paper dial. Lower door glass carries the original gilt SEIKOSHA stencil and ornamental scrollwork.

• Movement & strike

Two-train 8-day movement (two winding arbors):

• Right arbor = time train

• Left arbor = strike train

Coiled steel gong mounted inside the case for hour count and half-hour accent; anchor escapement with suspended brass pendulum bob and rating nut for regulation.

• Dial & hands

Roman numerals, minute track with quarter-hour markers, Seikosha logo at center. Blued-steel spade hands sized appropriately for the dial.

• Operation

Designed for once-a-week winding; keep the case hung level and start by giving the pendulum a gentle push. Regulate rate via the pendulum nut (down = slower, up = faster). Advance time by moving the minute hand clockwise, pausing to let the strike sequence complete at the half and hour.

• Dimensions (typical for this model family)

Drop-octagon schoolhouse clocks are commonly ~24–27 in tall, ~14–16 in wide, with ~8–10 in dial—a substantial wall presence without being oversized.

• Included with this example

Matching three-wing key and brass pendulum; intact interior maker’s label and stenciled lower glass—useful authenticity points.

• Why collectors like this pattern

Reliable 8-day weekly routine; classic American-influenced schoolhouse profile executed by Japan’s premier maker; rich gong tone; readable Roman dial; original gilt glass and label that display well.
