The Speak and Spell toy, released by Texas Instruments in 1979, was a popular electronic educational toy designed to teach children how to read and spell. Updated in 2019, this toy combined speech recognition and synthesized speech to facilitate learning. With its retro appeal and functionality, this Speak and Spell toy is a valuable tool for homeschooling or educational purposes, offering a fun and interactive way for children to improve their literacy skills.

The Speak & Spell is part of the modern reissue produced by Basic Fun (formerly Kahootz, LLC). This model was first released in 2019. The original version, by Texas Instruments, dates back to 1978–1980. In that same year, Basic Fun officially reintroduced the Speak & Spell as part of a retro line, featuring new voice synthesis and an LCD screen instead of a VFD, as well as removing the interchangeable cartridges.
