There are Two (2) simple ways to determine counterfeit rolls from genuine rolls -
1.) - Simply look down the center of the roll! The USPS prints coil stamps in sheets and then cuts the perforations and coil strips separately. Due to the older tech of these machines, the coil "tail" is often loose and not perfectly flush to the inside of the roll (See photos for comparison). CF stamps are printed similarly but using modern sticker roll machines which leave a perfectly tight roll from begining to end.
2.) The paper band. Genuine coil rolls (Modern ones, anyhow) the paper band will have a deckled edge (Wavy). CF coils have a straight edge (See photos for comparison). Again, this applies to modern coil stamps. Much older coil stamps will often have a band with a flat cut end.
NOTE - As long time philatelic dealers we DO NOT sell FAKE OR COUNTERFEIT Postage...PERIOD! The CF roll used for images only will NOT BE SHIPPED with the order. We do get a LOT of fake postage stamps nowdays in collections we aquire and we will often send fakes (Marked CF on the stamp) with genuine postage purchases if available to collectors to use as "guides/samples" to compare with GENUINE USPS postage so that they can see, first hand, the differences between fake and genuine postage. We do NOT Under any circumstance condone using counterfiet postage. It is against the law! Owning them is not illegal from a collector stand point, using them is.
