Based on the Lexus IS, the entry-level FR sedan in the Lexus lineup, the IS F made its debut in 2007 as the brand’s first high-performance model. Announced on July 21, 2022, the IS 500 serves as the successor to the IS F. The “F SPORT Performance” subname signifies a high-performance variant with upgrades not only to suspension and brakes, but also to the powertrain.
Following the IS F, this heritage continued with the GS F, RC F, and LC. The IS 500 is equipped with a jointly developed Yamaha 5.0L V8 DOHC engine, producing approximately 481 PS and 54.6 kg-m of torque — an increase of around 58 PS and 3 kg-m over the original IS F. To accommodate this, the overall length was extended by 50 mm, and a dedicated “Power Dome” hood was installed.
Specially tuned, the “8-Speed SPDS (Sport Direct Shift)” transmission achieves shift speeds as quick as 0.2 seconds. The vehicle features quad exhaust pipes inspired by the LFA super sports car, continuing the IS F’s performance image. The naturally aspirated large-displacement engine delivers a smooth yet powerful feel, accompanied by an exhilarating exhaust note — a rare pleasure in the world of multi-cylinder Japanese engines.
With electronically tuned handling and enlarged brakes, total performance has been further refined, resulting in a sedan that rivals top European competitors in both driving excitement and overall appeal.
