Rare Antique Georgian Miser's or Stocking Purse, Floral Crochet with Cut Steel Beadwork

Here on offer is a delightful and rare early 19th century miser's purse or stocking purse.

The purse is crocheted in rich blue thread with bands of cream and gold cameos each containing a blossom. It has beaded bands created with cut steel seed beads and it has beautiful cut steel bead lace to each end. The central plain section has a long opening to deposit and withdraw coins from the purse, the opening is highlighted with a simple pink design along the edges. The central waisted section has two ornate steel bands or rings to keep the purse closed.

This purse is in good used antique condition, there is a small area of beading missing at one end, there is some tarnish to the metal bands and beads. There are one or two stitches missing where the steel bead bands connect to the crochet sections.

The purse measures approx. 27.5cm in length.

A really rare, largely intact collectable
