Unit - VF-27 USS Princeton 1944 - the ship and VF-27 were lost on Oct. 24, 1944 during the Battle of Leyte Gulf after being hit by a Japanese bomb. 

Campaign - Pacific Theater 1944 - Lt. Carl A. Brown - shot down five planes during the above battle and was credited with another 5.5 throughout his service. This Double Ace (shooting down 10 or more enemy planes) lived to Sept. 4,1998. 

Markings - dark blue/back camouflage with white star and white 9 on tail and shark mouth on front fuselage with 6 Japanese flag target markings under cockpit. White cross on wings. Various other markings such as yellow tips on propeller.

Comes with attachable wheels, propeller, canopies, antennas, armament and instructions.

Model - Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat - developed to combat the Japanese Zero in the Pacific Theater, enjoying the highest kill-to-loss ratio (19:1) of any fighter in service. Its success was due to a rugged airframe along with increased fuel capacity, a low-mounted wing, wide landing gear, strengthened cockpit armor plating and increased ammunition capacity. The plane could handle considerable damage and still make its way back to the carrier.
