Discovered in 1958 in NW Yugoslavia was the birthplace of one of the strangest and most advanced of European prehistoric cultures which gave Europe its first monumental art and south-east Europe its first forms of organised social, economic and religious life. The story of the site's investigation and its relocation above flood waters is illustrated with 92 plates (14 in colour) and 59 line drawings.
