The mid to late 19th century is considered the golden age of black and
white illustration. This book collects masterpieces by many highly
respected illustrators from this era, featuring artists such as John
Tenniel, who was the illustrator for Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland
(1865); Kay Nielsen, the Danish illustrator who contributed to the
publication of Fairy Tales by Hans Andersen (1924); and Aubrey Beardsley
who is best known for his drawings for Oscar Wilde's play Salome.
