This is a fabulous vintage Bakelite figural squash blossom brooch with dangling veggies including ear of corn, carrot, scallion and ?celery? Purchased at a high-end jewelry live auction I couldn't attend, so didn't get to examine this piece -- ergo the confusion. The carved butterscotch squash blossom or orangey pepper from which the veggies dangle is Martha Sleeper. But her pin finding has been replaced. The green stems are right too, but the dangling veggies are slightly confusing. She definitely did a scallion in life size, but this small one, at first I thought a dense celluloid, but maybe something else. The carrot is correct for Martha Sleeper, but it might have been one of her veggie buttons? You can see where a shank was? The ear of corn seems like celluloid, but can't quite tell what the green ?celery is made of. It's a fabulous brooch measuring 4-1/4" to tip of carrot, while the squash blossom or pepper is alone 2". It has some hallmarks of a weird marriage, but I don't have a crystal clear picture of the wedding party. To wear it is to cause mass envy and excitement, it's so delicious. Just don't know if it's 100% Pure Martha Sleeper. Please buy to enjoy.
