BACKGROUND / HISTORY / CULTURE
• The "Longevity" Symbol: The Mandarin character Shou is one of the most important symbols in Chinese culture, representing a long, fruitful life. It is often given as a gift to convey wishes for health and prosperity.
• The "Jade Island" Legacy: In the 1960s-70s, Taiwan was the global center for nephrite jade production. This piece was part of the original wholesale business established in Taipei by our family matriarch in 1963, who sent these treasures to her daughter for the American market through 1976.
• Hualien Nephrite: Sourced during the peak of the Hualien mine’s output, this jade is a testament to the high-quality material that put Taiwan on the map as the "Jade Island." The high translucency of this specific disc indicates it was carved from a superior grade of nephrite.
