At the century's turn, Stuart reveled in the sailing and social offerings of the St. Lucie River Yacht Club. Come 1926, a hurricane razed the club. It took until 1988 for five yachtsmen with a shared vision to contemplate the revival of a yacht club in Stuart. That same year, forty-four individuals came together to form the Stuart Corinthian Yacht Club (SCYC), establishing it as a full-service, not-for-profit entity. Two survivors from the original St. Lucie Yacht Club were welcomed into the SCYC fold, and through a "declaration of succession," the two clubs were legally unified.
Subsequently, the SCYC acquired the Apalachicola Oyster Works property, laying the foundation for the club's expansion. This property boasted 400 feet of waterfront, 25 sanctioned slips, 8,000 square feet of concrete and metal structures, a parking area, and a pink residence across the way that functioned as the Clubhouse during renovation.
The groundbreaking ceremony on October 31, 1992, saw over 200 attendees, with State Senator William (Doc) Meyers delivering the keynote speech. Presently, the SCYC is a member-owned cooperative, governed by a Board of Directors elected by the members, ensuring that every member's voice contributes to the club's governance.
