One of the most intriguing artists to emerge in the 1990's, Jack Pierson has received critical acclaim for his work in a variety of media. His art is concerned with the grand themes of life-love, pain, desire, memory and mortality. Often grouped with fellow 'Boston School' artists, Nan Goldin, David Armstrong, Mark Morrisroe and Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Pierson works in a variety of mediums such as sculpture, language, photography, painting and installation. Pierson's primary medium is photography. He is especially interested in the photograph as a means to stimulate the imagination and fantasies of the viewer. His subject is America as paradise - a perfection that can be sought but never captured. Pierson records fragments of America's landscape - both urban and rural - exploring the seduction of lush, sexually charged locales such as Miami Beach, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas.
