In the belief that this field was not yet exhausted, I spent, accompanied by a small party of friends, in 1863-4, a period of nearly ten months in the examination chiefly of the geology and natural history of the country. Our attention was particularly directed to the basin of the Dead Sea, and to the districts east of the Jordan, as being those least accessible to travelers, and of which our knowledge was least complete." Very light wear along edges of binding. Illustrated gilt-stamped circular (2 1/2" diameter) plaque pasted to inside cover, and small dealer sticker glued to upper foredge corner of inside front cover. Light damp-staining of verso and margins of frontispiece. Block lightly age-toned. Very good- condition.
