Pre-1915 black and white postcard shows Mariedl, The Tyrolean Giantess, posed with her sister, of normal size. In this image, she is 27 years old, weighing 360 pounds. Her daily diet is listed. Born Maria Fassnauer (1879-1917), she reached a height of 7 feet by the age of 15. In 1906 she toured Europe, accompanied by her sister, to earn money as a sideshow freak attraction. Hours of standing gave her ulcerated legs and, in 1913, she returned to her parents' farm where she died in 1917. Postally used; very good - good condition with creasing at lower left and other light age wear. Circus freaks, sideshow, medical oddity, human oddities, handicapped, disabled.
