Spinosaurus was a massive, semi-aquatic predator that roamed what is now Morocco during the Cretaceous Period around 95 million years ago. It was one of the largest carnivorous dinosaurs, even surpassing Tyrannosaurus rex in length, reaching up to 50 feet long. This dinosaur had a long, crocodile-like snout filled with sharp, conical teeth which suggests it primarily hunted fish. Fossil evidence, including abundant Spinosaurus teeth found in ancient riverbeds strongly supports the idea that it spent much of its life in the water, making it one of the first known swimming dinosaurs. One of its most distinctive features was the tall sail-like structure on its back, formed by elongated neural spines. Scientists believe this sail may have been used for thermo-regulation, or stability while swimming. Additionally, its paddle-shaped tail likely helped it propel through water, reinforcing its aquatic lifestyle. Spinosaurus was part of a dangerous ecosystem in Morocco, sharing its habitat with other large predators such as Carcharodontosaurus and Bahariasaurus. Unlike most land-based dinosaurs, Spinosaurus adapted to a river-dwelling existence making it one of the most unique and mysterious dinosaurs ever discovered.
